Rickey Dale Cathey age 58 of Eldorado, passed away January 31, 2023 after an unexpected illness.
Rickey was born November 17, 1964 to Jimmy Dale Cathey and Martha Marie Ketchem Cathey in Hamilton, TX
Attending High School and graduating in Eldorado. Rickey was active in all sports. Excelling in track, he was a member of the mile relay team that went to state in 1984. After high school he went to work in oil field related jobs. Truck driving and eventually gas plants. He was currently employed as a Maintenance Supervisor with DCP Midstream in Ozona.
In 1980 as a freshman he met Vikki Cavaness. They remained sweethearts through high school and married April 20, 1985. Rickey and Vikki were blessed with three boys who were his pride and joy. He would say, “his boys were his greatest accomplishments”.
Rickey had many self-taught talents. He was an excellent mechanic and could figure out any motor. He also loved welding. He could build anything. Smart and a perfectionist to a fault.
Above all else he treasured time spent with his family. He enjoyed golfing. Not because he was especially good at it, but because it was time spent with his boys. When not working, he could be found at their “place” with Vikki and Coby at Lake Brownwood. Never meeting a stranger, he knew everyone. There was always a crowd of family and friends, food, fun and much laughter.
Rickey was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Martha Cathey. He is survived and missed by his wife Vikki, sons Ryan Cathey and wife Farran of Ozona, Russell Cathey and wife Chelsi, and Rance Cathey and wife Kali both of Eldorado. Sister Kim Lyons and husband Steve of Osage, TX and brother Coby Cathey of Brownwood. Forever loved by his eight grandchildren, Atleigh, Ansley, Finley, Emma, Molly, Brooklyn, Jaxson and Rhett. In addition, there are several nieces, nephews and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
Celebration of life in his honor to be held February 4, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at the Eldorado Cemetery. Interment to follow.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Eldorado Golf Club.
