Marion Louise Simmons Porter was born February 15, 1940 and died July 16, 2024.

Mother always knew hard work. She grew-up in a logging community only to move to a coal mining community. She endured many hardships which only led to a strong woman with a never ending, unmatched work ethic. From West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio then Texas she had many honorable friends and always ensured our family needs were met. She did always know work.

While living in Maryland she met our father on a blind date, fell in love and never fell out of love with James Norman Simmons. She loved the concerts they would attend especially the up and coming country-western stars we now know as legends.

Mother was a legend. She set her standards high in all aspects of her life. Her last job at Schleicher County Medical Center 37 years of again, unmatched leadership. She was very proud of this legacy.

She was also proud of her daughters and their families. A very small family but close and all were with her until her end. Daughter Rebecca Simmons-Rios and husband Hector and Daughter, Victoria Lynn Farmer and her sons James Tyler Farmer and wife Cassandra and Ryan Daniel Farmer. Great grandsons Ethan James Farmer and Christopher Lane Farmer.

She is also survived by her brother William Green and her sister Margaret Sullivan.

Mother made this family strong. She insisted on her style of work ethic and also insisted on education. She was so proud of the family she created. Her faith in God and fellowship in the Church of Christ carried her through the hard decisions and outcomes of her life.

“Every man’s life ends
the same way. It is only
the details of how he
lived and how he died
that distinguish one
man from another.”
– Hemingway

Mother was so very loved and respected by us. She is the example of exceptional motherhood. She provided all we needed to ensure our success but mostly taught us how to love.
