Henson Ray Garvin

October 18, 1945– October 28, 2021

Henson Ray Garvin of Coleman, Texas passed peacefully to his eternal home after a brief battle with Cancer October 28, 2021. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the Church of Christ, 211 Murchison Ave., Eldorado, Texas.

The youngest of five children, Henson was born to Homer and Nova Porter Garvin at home in Edith, Texas, October 18, 1945.

In the early 50’s he and his family moved to Eldorado where he lived until his graduation from Eldorado High School in 1964.

Henson was a natural born entrepreneur and salesman from the time he could ride a bicycle. As a boy he rode his bike selling The Grit Newspaper, greeting cards, homemade potholders and a variety of other products, including hammer handles his brother Dee Jay had trouble selling. Before graduation, he became an accomplished photographer.

After graduation he joined the United States Air Force. Honorably discharged from the service he enrolled in college at Huntsville, Texas. While studying, he worked at Huntsville State Prison and drove a school bus.

After college he returned to Eldorado and went to work for Halliburton Services in Sonora, Texas and later in Corpus Christi.

Because of health issues, Henson left Halliburton and began managing motels in the Corpus Christi and San Antonio area.

Henson moved to Coleman and met his soul mate and best friend, Rita Stubbs Martinez in 2006. Together they packed a lifetime of living in a few short years. They owned and operated a laundry mat, trailer park and rent houses. He opened a second hand store which he called The Sometimes Store because he said, “sometimes I’m there and sometimes I’m not.”

Henson never met a stranger and was always ready and willing to help anyone in need. Always generous to a fault.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Edean, half brother Ed Garvin, and sisters-in-law Laverne Garvin and Dona Garvin Sanderson.

He is survived by his wife Rita, brothers Dee Jay (Donna) Garvin, Jim (Elaine) Garvin, niece Linda Garvin Horwood, and nephews Douglas Garvin and Justin Garvin, along with a special friend Wendy Sherrill.

Henson is also survived by sisters-in-law Teri Stubbs Merworth, Peggy Stubbs Vaughn, Donnette Stubbs Harrison (David) and brothers-in-law Leroy Stubbs, Russell (Pam) Stubbs, Tim (Kathy) Stubbs, and Freddie (Vanessa) Stubbs.

He leaves behind a host of extended family and an abundance of friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to a church of your choice.
