It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Kay Marie (Johnson) Dossey, age 83, on January 10, 2025. Kay was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She brought joy, smiles, and kindness to all who knew her. Her three children (Michele, Charlene, and Stephen) and two grandsons (James and Jonathan) were her pride and joy. Kay’s love and support for her family and friends will remain in our hearts forever.

Kay was the only child of Harry Johnson and Ruth (Brannan) Johnson. She was born on May 17, 1941 in Monmouth, Illinois. Kay attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School through 8th grade and then attended Monmouth High School where she graduated in 1959. She attended Mount Saint Clare Catholic College in Clinton, Iowa. Kay married her high school sweetheart Charles Dossey. During their early married years, she lived in Arizona and Mississippi while her husband was in the Air Force. Later they moved back to Illinois and eventually ended up in Texas.

Kay was involved in her children’s activities as a Girl Scout Troop Leader, PTA leader, and religious education teacher. Throughout her life she worked at Lutheran Hospital in Moline, opened her own preschool, and worked in technology and sales. Although she enjoyed these jobs, her main profession was caring for and supporting her family. She always did for everyone else first and often had to be persuaded to take care of herself and things she needed.

Kay is preceded in death by her husband and parents. Those left to treasure her memory are her two daughters, Michele (Jerry) Bischoffberger of Sonora, Texas and Charlene Dossey of Georgetown, Texas and one son, Stephen Dossey of Sonora, Texas; grandchildren James Bischoffberger of Denver, Colorado, and Jonathan Canizales of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The family would like to thank the staff of Schleicher County Nursing Home, Interim Hospice and the many others who prayed for and took care of her.

Visitation will be held at Love Funeral home on Sunday, January 12, 2024 from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The rosary will be said at 6:00 pm.

A Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 13, 2024 at Saint Ann Catholic Church in Sonora, Texas. Graveside services will be at the Sonora Cemetery following the mass.
