Voters Pick Buitron and Meador, Porter and McAfee Head to a Runoff

Posted
Cassandra Buitron defeated incumbent Schleicher County Treasurer Jennifer Henderson 424-241 on Tuesday, March 3rd, in the Republican Primary. With no Democrat running for the job, the vote serves as the de facto election, although Buitron will be on the ballot again, although she will be unopposed in the November 3rd General Election

Republican voters re-elected Chris Meador to continue serving as Schleicher County Commissioner in Precinct 4. He defeated challenger Ben Mittel 171 to 45.

Other local candidates, including County Judge Charlie Bradley, County Clerk Marsha Maskill, Justice of the Peace Rahegyn Franke, Republican County Chair Jeri Willoughby and Democratic County Chair Phyllis Sauer were all unopposed and won easy re-eleetion.

In statewide races, Schleicher County Republicans preferred incumbent John Cornyn over Ken Paxton for U.S. Sentate by a 286-190 margin. The pair were running in a field of eight candidates and will face each other again in a runoff on May 26th for the right to face Democratic nominee James Talarico who defeated Jasmine Crockett, here locally as well as across the state.

Local Republicans also favored incumbent Tony Gonzales over challenger Brandon Herrera by a 270-256 margin. The pair were knotted atop a field of four candidates across District 23 and will also face one another in a runoff. Kathy Padilla Stout won the Democratic nomination with 52% of the vote. She was also the preference of Schleicher County Democrats, receiving 24 votes compared to 20 for Santos Limon.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott won handily here in Schleicher County as well as in the statewide Republican Primary. He will face Democrat Gina Hinojosa who won easily in the Democratic Primary, here in Schleicher County and across the state.
Meanwhile, in the race to replace Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, Republican Mayes Middleton will face Chip Roy in a the May 26th runoff while Nathan Johnson will face Joe Jaworski in a runoff for the Democratic nomination.
