Brownwood Woman Killed in Head-on Collision on U.S. 190 East of Eldorado

A Brownwood woman was killed and a Christoval man was seriously injured late Friday night, September 15, 2023, in a head-on collision about 10 miles east of Eldorado on U.S. 190.
Claudia Guadalupe Castillo, 38, of Brownwood was driving eastbound when she attempted to pass a tractor-trailer rig in a no passing zone, according to a statement issued by Texas DPS Sergeant Justin Baker on Saturday morning.
Castillo’s 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup collided head-on with a 2015 Dodge 1500 pickup driven by Jimmie Lee Setchfield, 66, of Christoval.
Setchfield was airlifted from the scene by AirMed-1 helicopter and transported to Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo with incapacitating injuries.
Castillo was pronounced dead at the scene by Schleicher County Justice of the Peace Rahegyn Franke.
The truck driver, Terry Lee Carson, 42, of Killeen, was not injured.
All three drivers were wearing their seat belt, according to a preliminary accident report provided by Sergeant Baker.
The accident was reported to the Schleicher County Sheriff’s Office by 9-1-1 call. Units of the Schleicher County EMS and Schleicher County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene shortly after 10 p.m., along with Texas DPS troopers.
Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Kimberly Castro investigated the accident.
