A 69-year-old Crockett County man was stuck and killed while walking along a street in Ozona Tuesday morning, March 24th.

Juan Francisco Esparza, 69, of Ozona, was walking west and crossing the interesction of Avenue K and Avenue J at about 7:30 a.m, when he was struck by a 2019 Dodge Ram pickup driven by David Leija, 43, of Ozona.

According to informantion released by DPS Sergeant Justin Baker, Leija was hindered by “environmental obstructions from the sun on the eastern horizon” and his pickup struck Esparza, causing serious bodily injury.

Esparza was taken to Ozona Family Health Center where he was pronounced dead by Dr. Marcus Sims.

The accident was investigated by DPS Trooper James Sissom of Ozona.
