Seven members of the Eldorado Eagles baseball team received post-season honors this week after the final teams from District 5-2A were eliminated from the State 2A Playoffs.

Cesar Garcia, a junior, was named the district’s All-Around Most Valuable Player. He tallied 57 put outs and two assists on the season He also counted for 39 hits while driving in 28 runs and hitting for a .557 batting average.

Aiden Dennis, a sophomore, was selected to the 1st Team squad at pitcher. He struck out 31 batters in 37 and a third innings pitched. He also scored 19 runs while notching up 18 hits and 12 RBIs with a .300 batting average.

David Barajas, a sophomore, was named to the 1st Team as an infielder. He tallied 21 hits for 23 runs and 18 RBIs while hitting for a .389 average. Barajas recored 29 put outs and four assists.

Eric Reyes, a junior, was named to the 1st Team as an outfielder. He tallied 23 put outs on the season while batting for a .444 average. Reyes notched up 36 hits for 25 runs and 15 RBIs.

Korbin Covarrubiaz, a freshman, was named to the Honorable Mention Team. He saw some duty on the mound where he recorded 17 and two-thirds innings while striking out 14. He hit for .295 average behind 18 hits while scoring 16 runs and driving in 21 runs.

Damian Romo, a freshman, was named to the Honorable Mention Team. He spent most of his time at first base where he recorded 138 put outs and one assist. He tallied 10 and a third innings on the mound while striking out nine and walking 13. Romo also hit for a .286 average on 15 hits with 17 runs and 10 RBIs.

Kaden Gonzalez, a freshman, was also named to the Honorable Mention Team. He was on the mound for 21 and a third innings, striking out 44 and walking 16. He also saw duty in the infield, recording 22 put outs and one assist. Gonzalez hit for a .423 average behind 22 hits while scoring 20 runs and five RBIs.

The Eagles were coached this year by William Robledo and Jared Romine. The team finished with a 7-3 record in district play and advanced to the playoffs as the 3rd place team from District 5-2A. The team lost to the Stamford Bulldogs in the Area Round of the State 2A Playoffs.

Next year looks bright for the Eagles as they lose only one member of the team to graduation this year.
