Thomas L. Byrd, Jr., 86, of Big Lake, Texas went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 20, 2022, in Big Lake surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born April 4, 1936, in Amarillo, Texas. He spent his early years in Ranah, Logan, Santa Rosa and Tucumcari, New Mexico and near Mancos, Colorado. After joining the United States Army in 1956, he served in El Paso, Texas; Olympia, Washington; France; Germany and South Korea. While in Korea, he met and married Ki Chun “Judy” Chung.

After leaving the Army in 1960, Tom worked in eastern New Mexico and the panhandle of Texas as a truck driver and later as a diesel mechanic.

Tom and his family moved to Eldorado, Texas in 1973 where he worked all over West Texas for Pool Company. Moving to Big Lake, Texas in 1985, he married Marian Sue Hendrix on January 13, 1989. After retiring from Pool Company in 2008, Tom was active in the music program of Reagan County Care Center and the First Baptist Church of Big Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy, and Leta Byrd; his wife Ki Chun Byrd; and his sister Zoe Griegas. Tom is survived by his wife Marian Sue; his children Jim Bob Byrd; Jerry Byrd; and Mary Byrd Huff; and stepson Mark Hendrix, as well as grandchildren Caleb Huff and Hannah Huff; brother Edgar Byrd; sister Letabeth Littlejohn; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Tom loved the Lord and enjoyed singing his praises. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at the First Baptist Church of Big Lake with a family visitation to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
