Sarah Olivia Sweatt Yates, age 89, passed from this life to be with Jesus and her heavenly family on September 2, 2016. She was born at home in Eldorado, Texas, on November 5, 1926,to E.H. (Greasy) and Dixie Sweatt.

Sarah’s love for the Eldorado Eagles began at an early age. She attended Eldorado schools and participated in cheerleading, volleyball, and summer league softball. She graduated from EHS in 1944.

Sarah married Earl Yates on November 16, 1946. They had 5 children and enjoyed 57 years of marriage. The Yates home was a place where everyone, friends or family, felt welcome.

Sarah worked at Western Auto and Perry’s for many years taking pleasure in treating customers as if they were her own family. She enjoyed league bowling with her friends and playing bridge.

After retirement, she remained active in the community by delivering Meals on Wheels and helping with Mias Amigas. One thing Sarah most looked forward to throughout life was following Eldorado athletics in any form as a true Eagle fan and supporting her children and grandchildren as they participated in Eagle sports.

Her family loved gathering at the Yates house for Sunday lunch. Her fried chicken, gravy, mashed potatoes, homemade hot rolls and sweet tea were a family favorite. To finish off the delicious meal she would treat us with her famous chocolate cake. Sarah was happiest when she had a house full of family and lived to delight each member. She had a special way of making each child or grandchild feel as if she had prepared the entire meal just for them.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Tanya Chapman, Randy Mitchel and husband Larry, Jill Smith and husband Clint, 10 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother E.H. (Fat) Sweatt, husband Earl Yates, daughter Sherry Yates Lux and her husband De Lux, and her son Jackie Yates.

Sarah was a wonderful lady and will be dearly missed by family and friends. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Schleicher County Nursing Home and Kindred Hospice for their excellent care.
