Robert Duwain Sauer passed away Monday, January 7, 2019. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mertzon Highway Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Eldorado Cemetery.

Robert Duwain Sauer was born on August 7th, 1941 in San Angelo, Texas. He graduated from Eldorado High School in 1960 and was the first student from Eldorado to go to Boys State with the American Legion. He attended Texas Wesleyan College in Ft. Worth, where he was voted the most popular freshman on campus. There he met Cynthia Anne Baker and they married Sept 30, 1961. They lived in Eldorado for a year and then returned to Ft. Worth. While there, he worked for Allied Mills and Central Bank & Trust as a cashier.

Duwain proudly served in the Army National Guard. Duwain and Cynthia served as houseparents at Christ’s Haven Children’s Home from 1970-1975, in which they cared for 15-18 children in their home during this time. Duwain loved these children like his own and enjoyed activities with them so much that everyone wanted to live in their cottage. While living there, he also served as a Deacon at Midtown Church of Christ.

In 1975, Duwain moved his family to Eldorado to help his father farm where he custom cut and baled hay. In the 1970’s, at the peak of the C.B. era, Duwain was known as “Balerman” and this handle stuck with him throughout his life.

In the 1980’s, the farmers purchased the Mikeska Gin and formed the Schleicher County Co-Op Gin where he worked as the manager. Later, he began contract pumping wells and grew this into his business as Production Plus Pumping Service, Inc. Duwain also served on the Eldorado school board during the 1980’s.

In 1991, the Mertzon Hwy. Church of Christ received a letter from Jose Martinez requesting support for mission work in Acuna, Mexico. The elders decided to send support for a preacher-training school in Acuna and funds to build more church buildings. Duwain loved Jose so much and was so passionate about this ministry that anywhere Duwain was, he would tell people about Jose and how they could help by donating money and supplies. As Duwain and Jose worked and fished together their families grew very close. In March 2013, Duwain lost his wife of 51 years, Cynthia, to complications of diabetes.

In January 2014, Duwain married Nonnie Stearman and they lived in Eldorado for three years, then spent the last two years in San Angelo. Production Plus Pumping Service, Inc. closed its doors in January 2018, but Duwain continued to work as a consultant until December 17, 2018. Duwain will be remembered for his love for God and others, his warm smile, loving hugs, words of acceptance and encouragement, and his generosity. He doesn’t leave many earthly possessions behind. He gave much of what he had to others that were in need. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Victor Sauer and Alma Castillo; and his first wife, Cynthia Anne Baker.

He is survived by his wife, Nonnie Sauer; his children Robert Newman and wife Belinda; Lynna Mikeska and husband Lanis; Melissa Murr and husband Marcus; Carrie Pridemore and husband Mike; Jimmy Stearman and wife Babs; and Eddie Stearman and wife Lisa; brother Ronnie Sauer; sisters Kathy Doty and Joy Foster; as well as, 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
