ELDORADO – Jerry Clayburn “Clay” Burleson, 80, of Eldorado, Texas, passed into the presence of our Heavenly Father Monday, August 2, 2021. He was born February 15, 1941, in Vance, Texas, to Forace and Modell Wood Burleson and will be laid to rest in the Vance Cemetery August 9, 2021.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Lois Burleson, daughter Melissa Burleson Merrifield and husband Odie; daughter Shanna Shay Burleson, granddaughter Rahegyn Elaine Franke and great-granddaughter Sadie Grace Reyna; bonus daughters Lisa Dollar and husband Foy; Kara Hornback and husband Greg; his sister Mona Burleson Hill and husband M. L.; brothers Hershel Burleson; Roe Burleson and wife Judy and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Elaine Merritt Burleson and brother Tike Burleson.

Clay moved to Eldorado in the early 60’s and said it was the best decision he ever made. He loved the small town life and the people that resided there. When an opening came up at the Schleicher County Road Department he was hired on July 1, 1977. He worked for the county for 32 years and retired as Road Superintendent on April 30, 2009.

Clay loved fishing, hunting, dancing and his daily visits to the coffee shop that he did for many years. He never met a stranger, loved people and told the best stories. Clay also had a deep love for God so we know that there is a huge celebration in Heaven now that he’s home. Clay was a devoted father to his two girls after the death of their mother in 1967. For many years he was a single father until he met the love of his life and married Lois Burleson in 1995. They celebrated their 26th year anniversary in July of 2021.
