Christopher George Spence, 62, died December 18, 2018 in Georgetown. A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at First United Methodist Church, 410 E University Ave, Georgetown, Texas.

He was born March 17, 1956 to George Baugh and Sarah (Sally) Bush Spence.

His mother was born in Eldorado as was his father’s mother, Fay Baugh Spence, from an old Schleicher County ranching family. Until last year, he managed the family’s ranch in this county.

He grew up in Berea, Ohio but returned to Texas for his college education, earning a B.A. from West Texas State University and an M.S. degree at the University of North Texas.

He married Tomi Longtin Spence on August 17, 1975. She preceded him in death on May 10, 2018. He was also preceded in death by his parents. George and Sally.

Chris served the senior population for 40 years as administrator and CEO of senior care facilities that offered independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, home health and hospice care. He led Sears Memorial Methodist Center in Abilene, followed by 28 years of leadership at Wesleyan Homes, Inc. in Georgetown, Texas.

He also devoted his time and talents to the United Methodist Church, both locally in Georgetown, and to the Central Texas Conference.

He is survived by his son David Reese Spence and wife Hallie and mother-in-law Mamye Ruth Longtin Bryant, all of Georgetown. He is also survived by a brother, David W. Spence and wife Mary of Ann Arbor, Michigan; a sister Matine T. spence and husband Edward Cone of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
