A Louisiana man failed to comply with Deputy Sheriff Ben Maness’ directions last Thursday night and was tased when he attempted to flee the officer on foot. Maness took the suspect, Jerry Ray Webb, 30, into custody shortly before midnight on Thursday, March 18th, near the Stripes convenience store on South Divide Street in Eldorado.

Maness had been on the lookout for Webb after being advised by the Sutton County Sheriff’s Office that he was likely en route to Sonora in a 2004 Buick Century. Webb was wanted on a felony warrant for failing to register as a sex offender out of Saint Tammany Parish, Louisiana.

Maness spotted Webb’s Buick parked at the Stripes store’s gas pumps and Sutton County Deputy Marcos Guajardo came from Sonora to assist.
After Webb was subdued and taken into custody, he was transported to Schleicher County Medical Center where he was evaluated.

A female subject was detained at the scene and sat on the ground near the car as it was searched. A small quantity of methamphetamine was reportedly found inside the car.

After leaving the hospital, Webb was booked into the Schleicher County Jail on charges of resisting arrest, search and transport. He is also charged with possession of a controlled substance and the original felony warrant for failure to register as a sex offender.

The female subject who had been detained during the search was released.
