The Eldorado Eagles will host the Haskell Indians Friday night at San Angelo Stadium in the Bi-District round of the State 2A Playoffs.

Kickoff time is 7:30 p.m. and the Eagles will be on the west side or “home side” of the stadium.

Eagles Head Coach Michael Johnson explains that admission is $5 per adult and $3 per student.

The Eagles reached the bi-district round by finishing the regular season as District 8-2A Tri-Champions along with the Miles Bulldogs and the Christoval Cougars. The Eagles advanced to the playoffs as the district’s #1 seed after winning a coin toss with the Cougars who had tied the Eagles in points. More on that later.

The Eagles are 6-4 on the season and 4-1 in district play, losing only to Christoval in district competition. Despite winning over district foes Irion County, Miles, Rocksprings and Menard by margins totaling 175 points, their point lead over Christoval, who held an 87-point margin over district opponents, was limited by the UIL 17-point rule.

It seems that the UIL caps the margin of victory points at 17 per game which, after the Cougars nine-point win over the Eagles last Friday night, left Eldorado and Christoval tied at 59 points each. Coach Johnson and Christoval Athletic Director Scott Richardson and Head Football Coach Casey Otho met on the field after the game to settle things with the coin toss. (SEE RELATED STORY ON PAGE 4)

As the #1 seed, the Eagles will face the Haskell Indians who are the #4 seed from District 7-2A. Haskell has a 4-6 record with wins over Munday, the Brownwood JV squad,Roscoe and Baird, with losses to Quanah, Brady, Stamford, Cross Plains, Hamlin and Albany.

Meanwhile three other teams from District 8-2A will face 7-2A opponents this week with the #4 seed Rocksprings Angoras facing the #1 seed Albany Lions on Thursday night in San Angelo stadium. The #3 seed Miles Bulldogs will face the #2 seed

Hamlin Pied Pipers on Friday night at the Mustang Bowl in Sweetwater while the #2 seed Christoval Cougars will face the #3 seed Cross Plains Buffaloes on Friday night at Plowboy Field in Roscoe.

The Menard Yellowjackets and the Irion County Hornets finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in District 8-2A and did not advance to the playoffs.

The winner of the Eldorado/Haskell game is slated to play the winner between the Wheeler Mustangs and the Archer City Wildcats who play in Quanah on Friday night.

The Eagles Athletic Booster Club will be hosting a tailgate party in the San Angelo Stadium parking lot prior to the game. Booster Club President Stacy Jurecek encourages Eagles fans to stop by between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. for plenty of snacks, Eagle talk and a heaping helping of Eldorado Eagle Spirit!
