The 2A Eldorado Eagles, had swept through the competition at 7on7 state qualifying tournaments in Odessa and Sonora, and were undefeated headed into the State tournament last Thursday in College Station.

The Eagles advanced through pool play with a 33-18 win over the Albany Lions and a 25-29 win over the Mildred Eagles. They suffered their first loss of the season, however, in the third round of pool play, falling 27-12 to 3A powerhouse Gunter.

Still, Eldorado’s 2-1 record in pool play was good enough to advance them into the single-elimination championship bracket on Friday, June 25th, where they defeated the Tidehaven Tigers 31-14 before falling to the eventual tournament champion East Bernard Brahmas, also a perennial 3A playoff team.
