  • Congressman Will Hurd Campaigns in Eldorado

    U.S. Representative Will Hurd was in Eldorado on Tuesday stumping for re-election. Hurd, a Republican, represents the 23rd District of Texas. He stopped by the Schleicher County Annex building where he was greeted by a group of 25-30 citizens who gathered to take part in what he calls his 2018 DC2DQ Tour. He told the audience that Eldorado was the 19th stop on a 38-town tour through all 29 counties in his district. The meetings are held primarily at Dairy Queens in small towns, hence the name DC2DQ.

    Schleicher County Clerk Mary Ann Gonzalez and County Treasurer Jennifer L. Henderson were among hundreds of county officials who gathered in Austin, Aug. 29-31, at the Texas Association of Counties (TAC) 2018 Legislative Conference to discuss common concerns shared by Texas’ local governments. The conference is a platform to learn about the biggest issues facing counties and local taxpayers heading into the 86th session of the Texas Legislature, which begins Jan. 8, 2019.
  • DPS Offers Increased Reward, Seeks Leads in 1980 Cold Case of Missing Midland Woman

    AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is asking for the public for help in solving the 1980 disappearance of Kristy Lynn Booth, and an increased reward of up to $6,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible if the tip is received before next month’s featured Texas Rangers cold case is announced. (A $3,000 reward for information leading to an arrest is routinely offered on all cases on the Texas Rangers’ Unsolved Homicides website.)

    We all need a happy place, or at the very least can benefit from one – or a dozen, take your pick. You don’t have to limit yourself to just one happy place. Go ahead; grab a few. They’re free! A happy place doesn’t have to be a place, per se, but it can be. It is a state of mind sometimes brought on by a physical location, but it can be achieved by any number of conditions. Country music, classical music, hard rock, a lullaby, complete silence.
