    Over the last 14 days in West Texas, temperatures climbed over 100 degrees and the last significant rain occurred in June, resulting in dry conditions ripe for wildfire ignition. Local fire departments responded to multiple fires sparked by welding in the last week, including one here in Schleicher County on County Road 220 just last week.
  • City Council Discusses Tax Rates, Water Tower and Natural Gas Outage

    The Eldorado City Council voted Monday night to propose a tax rate of 51.41 cents per $100 valuation. The rate is lower than last year’ rate of 52.16 cents, but well above the effective rate of 47.61 cents. The effective rate is the rate necessary to raise the same amount of tax revenue as last year.

    Schleicher County Commissioners met Monday, April 12th and called for bids for a transport load of diesel fuel. The commissioners had previously called for a bid on a jail roof and did so again at Monday’s meeting.
  • Higher Taxable Values a Big Change for Local Officials

    Four of the five taxing jurisdictions within Schleicher County are facing the prospect of increased taxable values for the first time in many years. Almost all of the increase is due to the Live Oak Wind Farm going on the tax rolls.
  • FCC Acts to Curb Robocalls, Caller ID ‘Spoofing’

    The Federal Communications Commission voted last week to enact rules banning fraudulent text messages and international robocalls last week. The new rules effectively eliminate loopholes in the Truth in Caller ID Act, which banned spoofing domestic calls but made it hard for the FCC to move against scam text message artists and those placing international hoax phone calls.

Serving people of all walks of life has shown me that way more unites our country than divides us. This understanding has allowed me to win elections many people thought I couldn’t, especially when the political environment was overwhelmingly against my party.
