  • YFZ Ranch Lease Made Public, Border Patrol Confirms Training Exercise

    Members of the U.S. Border Patrol Special Operations Detachment took part in a training exercise held at the YFZ Ranch last week. Eldorado residents and some of the ranch’s neighbors reported seeing helicopters, Osprey tilt wing aircraft and other airplanes circling the ranch and coming and going from the Schleicher County Airport.
  • YFZ Investigator Wes Hensley Shot in Houston

    Captain Wes Hensley, an investigator with the Office of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was one of three officers shot Tuesday while attempting to serve a warrant in Houston. All three officers are expected to recover, according to news reports in Houston. Hensley is known here in Eldorado as one of the investigators who worked on the YFZ Ranch investigation. During that time, he worked closely with Schleicher County Sheriff David Doran and Texas Ranger Nick Hanna, among others.

     
  • Dutch Military Conducts War Games in Menard County

    The Royal Netherlands 11th Reconnaissance Air Assault Brigade carried out military missions just minutes from Menard last week. Rancho Bonito, just northeast of town, hosted the majority of the tactical operations. Massive tents, radio antenna, towers, ambulances, and military vehicles set the scene for the military headquarters.
  • SCISD Trustees Meet, Alter Investment Strategy

    Schleicher County ISD trustees met Monday evening, December 10, 2018, and voted unanimously to change the way they handle the school district’s long term investments. The trustees amended their policy manual so that they can invest the district’s money for up to two years. The old policy limited the district to a one-year maturity on investment accounts.

  • City Council Discusses Election, New Water Tower

    There will be four seats up for election on the Eldorado City Council when voters go to the polls on May 4th. It was announced during Monday night’s meeting of the city council that the seats held by Danny Halbert (Ward #1), Paul Rebuck (Ward #2), Wayne McGinnes (Ward #3) and the at-large mayor position currently held by George Arispe will all be on the ballot for two-year terms. The filing deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019.
  • 100 Megawatt Solar Farm Planned Northeast of Eldorado

    A German company named EnergieKontor is intending to build a solar farm capable of generating 90 megawatts of electricity just outside of Eldorado. The project, named the Prickly Pear Solar Farm, would be constructed on about 2,000 acres north and east of the AEP substation on County Road 300.
  • YFZ Ranch Leased to ETG Properties

    51st District Attorney Allison Palmer confirmed Tuesday that the long-rumored deal to lease the YFZ Ranch near Eldorado has been completed. She identified the lessee as a company called ETG Properties.
  • Farm Service Agency Now Accepting Emergency Conservation Program Applications

    U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Jodie Watson announced on Friday, November 30th that Schleicher, Sutton, and Val Verde County is accepting applications for the Emergency Conservation Program (ECP) to address damages from flooding. ECP signup will begin on December 1, 2018, and end on December 31, 2018.
  • Commissioners Consider Gaines County School Land

    The Schleicher County Commissioners spent an hour in an executive session during their meeting on Monday, December 3rd, as they consulted with County Attorney Clint Griffin regarding real property. No action was taken on the matter when they returned to open session.
  • Eagles Dominate Post-season Honors in District 8-2A Div. II

    The Eldorado Eagles placed 20 players on the District 8-2A Division II All-District football team. They claimed a total of 23 positions and,the Eagles coaching staff was named as the district’s Staff of the Year. The All-District team was announced this week after all four district teams were eliminated from the 2A state playoffs.
