Longtime West Texas oil and gas operator, John Q. McCabe passed away on May 24, 2011 at the age of 91. He was born January 4, 1920 in Marshall, Arkansas to William T. and Pearl (Pierce) McCabe. After the sudden passing of his father when John was just seven years old, his mother raised him and his five younger siblings in Osage, Oklahoma. In 1938 John graduated from Osage High School and then served in the Army Air Forces during WWII from 1942 to 1946. John was an Aircraft Engineering Officer and a Captain for the 43rd Bomber Group. He was a decorated soldier, earning the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 bronze star. After discharge, he achieved the rank of Major through the Air Force Reserves.

Our dearest Dr. Jerry Blaylock went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 16, 2011 at Christopher House Hospice in Austin. Jerry was born on March 21, 1930 in San Angelo, TX. She was the daughter of the late William Arley and Alpha Spencer Blaylock of Eldorado, TX.
Dr. Blaylock enjoyed a varied and distinguished career in nursing.

She received four academic degrees including a baccalaureate degree in physical education from Sul Ross University in Alpine, TX; a baccalaureate degree in nursing from Baylor University in Waco, TX; a master’s degree in nursing from The University of Texas Medical Branch School of Nursing in Galveston, TX; and a doctoral degree in Nursing Education from Teachers College, Columbia University in New York.

Was born on May 21,1950 to Jose and Louisa Romero and was raised by grandparents Pablo and Cathrina Romero.

He served in the army from 9-8-69 to 3-19-72. His military rank was a E-4 specialist, his military job was a combat engineer and a heavy equipment operator. He served in Vietnam War and  was very  proud to serve his country.

He survived by his wife Sherry, the mother of his children and friend Mary R. Grimaldo, a son David Gauna and his wife Consuela, two daughters Marylou Covarrubiaz and husband Joaquin, Natalie and husband Frank Garza. Extended children Shane Chriswell and wife Misty of Menard, Rusty Chriswell and wife Misty, D.J Chriswell and wife Tammy.

William Monroe “Bill” Spurgers, 82, departed this world to be with His Lord, many relatives and friends on Thursday, April 7, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2011, at the cemetery Chapel in Eldorado, TX, officiated by his son Timothy Spurgers. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way.

Bill was born in San Angelo to Lorenzo J. and Nettie Spurgers on April 14, 1928. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.  After returning home he spent most of his life in law enforcement, insurance and working for Mobil Oil Company.

He is survived by his wife Nell Spurgers and his brother, James Spurgers both of San Angelo; daughter, Rhetta and husband Glenn Wright of Granbury; son, Timothy Spurgers of Granbury; step sons, Lannie Spurgers of Longview, David Spurgers, Kye Spurgers, and Robert Spurgers all of San Angelo; sister- in-law, Gloria Perry of San Angelo; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to say a special thanks to the Vista Care Hospice of San Angelo for their love and care and for always being there when we needed them.
