Vernell peacefully passed to her heavenly reward Sunday evening November 23, 2014. She was born to Kate & Marlin Wheeler on July 30, 1924 in Santo, Texas and turned 90 on July 30, 2014 at Country Oaks Assisted Living in Burnet, Texas.
She was the oldest daughter of 10 siblings. Vernell was the bride of “Gene” McCalla for 69 years. They married on April 5, 1941 and moved to Eldorado, Texas where they both worked in the Eldorado Woolen Mill during WWII.
Vernell was very active in the Eldorado community volunteering in the public schools listening to kids read and grading papers. She also served at the nursing home where she was honored for 16 years of service as a volunteer.
She was born Leota Laura Hunt, to Lee Hunt and Yola Blanche Sloan Hunt, on December 11, 1918, in Junction, Texas. She grew up in a family of eight children. She married Lester Nixon, and together they grew in Christ and reared eight children. Lester and Leota both shared a passion for singing and carrying on the Lord’s work.
Leota went to see our Lord on September 26, 2014. She is preceded in death by her husband Lester Nixon, her son Reginald Lagow, four grandchildren, and multiple other family members.
Alfredo C. Robles, 89, of Big Lake, Texas, passed away on Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, in Reagan County Care Center. He was born May 24, 1925, in Voss, Texas, to Rafael and Concepcion Robles. He was a rancher for many years for the Smith and Harris families in the Water Valley and Big Lake, Texas, areas.
He was a member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Big Lake, Texas, where he would support and help his wife with many church activities like preparing meals, church ground maintenance or whatever needed to be done.
Tyler Ryan Robledo of Eldorado, husband, father, and son passed away from this life on Friday September 12th, 2014. Funeral services were held at the Schleicher County I.S.D. gymnasium at 8 a.m. on Monday September 15th, with graveside services following at the Eldorado Cemetery.
Tyler is survived by wife Merrissa, son Ethan, and daughter Carli of San Antonio; his father Daniel Robledo of San Antonio; mother and step-father Toya and Kenny Daniels of Eldorado; grandmother, Tooter Dunham of Eldorado; sister Tamra Burwick and husband Trevor of Jarrell and their children Micah, Eliana, Alyx, and Collin, brother Tanner Robledo and wife Samantha of Austin; step sisters Stephanie Young and husband Cole and Vonnie Mitchum and husband Robert all of Henderson. Brother-in-law Ryan Parks and wife Lacy, and children Nicholas, Nichole, Tyler, and Jacob all of Hayes County. He is also survived by Aunts and Uncles, Kendra and Ed Sutton, Pam and Lynn Donaho, Debbie McDonald, Delsa Perez and Mark Lilly, David and Sandra Robledo and Joel and Bobbie Robledo.
