Florence Marie Nixon Hinton, 92 years of age of Eldorado, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2009 with family members present.
Mrs. Hinton was born May 23, 1917, in Manitou Tillman County, Oklahoma to Robert J. Nixon and Estella “Esta” Roberts Nixon. Mrs. Hinton attended the Bailey Ranch School in Schleicher County, Texas, and graduated from San Angelo Senior High School in San Angelo, Texas, in 1936. She took a post graduate course from 1936-1937 at Eldorado High School.
Mrs. Hinton married Allen J. “Jack” Hinton on May 4, 1940, in Yuma, Arizona. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Eldorado, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brother, Robert Andrew “Andy” Nixon; her sister, Pauline Nixon Franklin Tidwell; and a foster-brother, Alfred M. “Skinnie” Holmes.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Doris Hinton Lord and Bob Lord of Castle Rock, Colorado; former son-in-law Doug Mahan of Euless, Texas; step-grandchildren, Dave Lord of Chandler, Arizona; and Robbi Lord Thompson of Grand Junction, Colorado; step-great-grandchildren, Sophie Kincaid of Grand Junction, Colorado; and Payson and Amber Lord of Chandler, Arizona. Also surviving are nieces, Judy Nixon Lomax of Cincinnati, Ohio; Mary Ann Nixon Sherrod of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; Linda Nixon Scroggins of Eldorado, Texas; and foster niece, Ann Marie Holmes Haley of Perryton, Texas.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2009, 2:00 pm at the chapel at the Eldorado Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to West Texas Rehab, 4601 Hastford, Abilene, Texas 79605; West Texas Boys’ Ranch, 10223 Boys’ Ranch road, San Angelo, Texas 76904; or a favorite charity if desired.
