Burnet — Lillian Mary Kroeger, age 88, of Burnet, Texas died Saturday June 20, 2009 at Brackenridge Hospital of complications resulting from a fall in her home.

Miss Kroeger was born December 24, 1920 in Bellville, Texas the sixth of eight children and only daughter of Grace and William Kroeger, Sr. She came with her family to Burnet as an infant and was graduated from Burnet High School in 1938. After attending Durham-Draughon Business College in Austin, Texas she worked briefly in the Burnet County Courthouse.

In 1941, she joined the staff of the Shepperd Memorial Hospital and Clinic on Hwy. 29 in Burnet. Miss Kroeger was a vital part of the success of the Hospital working closely with Dr. Joe Shepperd to master and perform most of the functions a working medical clinic and hospital. As the Hospital Administrator in the 1950’s, she guided the facility to achieve state accreditations: the first small hospital in Texas to be awarded that distinction.

 

Miss K understood the value of discipline and professionalism in the running of a hospital and instilled those principles into the many young people she mentored in the nursing and medical technical fields.
After leaving Shepperd Memorial in the mid 1960’s, Miss Kroeger became an independent Hospital Consultant. She traveled Texas for a few years guiding other small Hospitals and nursing homes to achieve or regain state accreditation.

She accepted the Administrator position at a nursing home in Eldorado, Texas and lived there until retiring and returning to Burnet in 1985.

Miss Kroeger’s interest in all aspects of her community, her friends, Epsilon Pi Sorority, her volunteer work and her family knew no bounds. She was known for her cheerfulness, enthusiasm, and humor. Her many nieces and nephews will always hold their “Aunt Sissy” in their hearts.

She is survived by two brothers, Allen”Al” Kroeger of Burnet, Texas presently residing in Hamilton, Texas, Lloyd and wife Marie Kroeger of Burnet, sister-in-law Bertiel Kroeger of Austin, Texas, nieces: Kay Roberts of Gatesville, Texas, Joyce Edwinson of Austin, Texas, Cheryl Phillips of Lewisville, Cindy Middlebrook of Austin, Debbie Cartwright of Austin, Gayla Kroeger of Beaver Lake, Arkansas and Susan Barnett of Burnet, Texas. Nephews: Charlie Kroeger of Canyon, Howard Kroeger of Belton and Steven Kroeger of Fredericksburg.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3:00 at the Clements-Wilcox Chapel in Burnet, Texas. Officiating will be Ellen Ely. Interment followed at the Burnet City Cemetery.
