Dorothy Lee Harris, 97, joined her Lord and savior that she loved and served so well, on May 22, 2014 at Shannon Medical Center.

Dorothy was born in a small community of Field Creek, Texas in Llano County on March 31, 1917, to Katie Mae and Robert Way King. At the age of 16, Orland Harris came into her life. Dorothy married Orland on Dec. 23, 1933. She often told the story of her father giving her $10 to purchase a wedding dress, but Orland wanted her to wear jodhpurs with boots so they could leave shortly after the wedding via wagon to start their life together in Stonewall County, Texas.

From this union, four children were born; Lee Harris and wife, Ara, of San Angelo, Jimmie Harris of San Angelo, Arlene Payne of San Angelo, and Jackie Harris and wife, Becky, of Water Valley.

She embarked on many adventures with Orland. Just to mention a few; sharecropping, owning and operating a “filling station”, and cooking/catering BBQ. Dorothy was a soft spoken and gentle woman who took pride in looking her best at all times. Family and friends often remarked how she always looked her best with hair done and lipstick on.

The most important things in her life were her love for the Lord and family. She exhibited these qualities in every aspect of her life and with everyone she met. She worked for the United States Postal Service in Eldorado for 15 years enjoying her time meeting and greeting people. Dorothy also enjoyed fellowship and activities with the Women’s Auxiliary, the Eldorado Quilting Club, her beloved Community Baptist Church, and the church at Royal Estates where she lived for the past 8 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Clara Mae Donaldson and Fay Burk and brother, Desmond “Buddy” King, her husband of 65 years Orland Alva Harris, and great-grandson, Tyler Harris.

Survivors include her three sons and one daughter, 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers for the service will be six grandsons; Robert Harris, Glen Scott Harris, Kirby Harris, Wayne Harris, Todd Harris, and Marc Payne.

Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 25, at the Community Baptist Church of Eldorado. Rev. Byron Orand of Bourne, Texas will officiate services arranged by Kerbow Funeral Home of Eldorado with interment at the Eldorado Cemetery.
