Bobby R. Sykes, “Pa”, went to be with his lord and savior on the 15th of March, 2014.
Bob was born to O.C. and Kate Sykes on December 3rd, 1928 in Ballinger, Texas. He attended Ballinger High School and Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets, graduating in the class of 1950. Bob married the love of his life, Pat West in June 1951. He served his country in the United States Army with the 594th Field Artillery Battalion in Germany until early 1953. Following his service, he returned to Texas to raise his children and begin his ranching career with his father and brother.
Bob was a devout Christian and sought to serve the Lord. His life passions were God, family and friends, ranching, and Texas A&M.
Bob loved ranching and was a steward of God’s creation. He thoroughly enjoyed caring for that which was entrusted to him. He was in his element when he was working the land, cattle, horses, sheep, goats, hunting, being with his grandchildren, and almost always while telling a good story.
He succeeded in instilling in his children and grandchildren the importance of hard work and that God comes first. His answer when facing life’s uncertainties was always to trust the Lord.
In addition to serving his family, he dedicated part of his life volunteering for his church, city, school board, and fellow cattlemen, horsemen, and sheep and goat raisers. There were few things that he enjoyed more or took more seriously than leading his young men’s Sunday school class, as he did for many years at First Baptist Church of Eldorado.
In their later years, God sent Pat and Bob an Angel. That Angel’s name is Rosa Martinez. There is no way to thank her enough for her the dedicated love and care she provided to them.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Pat, two infant children, his parents, and his brother Bill.
He is survived by his sons Robert Sykes and wife Lisa and their three sons Reed, Nathan, and Grant; Steve Sykes and wife Ann and their three children Clint and wife Lindsay, Clayton, and Stevie McBride and her husband Heston, by two great-grand children Tagan and Brayd, children of Clint and Lindsay Sykes, and by his sister-in-law Mary Sykes, niece Alison, and nephews Ted and Tom.
The family sincerely thanks all of the health care providers who assisted us in caring for Pa. The memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 20th at 9:30 A.M. at First Baptist Church of Eldorado. Burial at Evergreen Cemetary in Ballinger, Texas will follow as soon thereafter as travel permits.
Should anyone desire to make a donation in lieu of flowers, the First Baptist Church of Eldorado and Hospice of San Angelo are suggested.
