Martha Dell Williams Thornton, 75, of San Angelo died Tuesday, March 12 in Shannon Hospital. A graveside funeral service was held  Thursday, March 14 at the Eldorado Cemetery.

Martha Dell was born on June 1, 1937 to John (Jim) and Frankie Williams and three adoring older brothers. She grew up in Eldorado, Texas, and graduated high school there. On May 28, 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, Jim Thornton, and they made their home in Lubbock, Texas, while Jim attended and graduated Texas Tech University. Jim’s job after graduation took them to several different cities such as Midland, Harlingen, Houston, and eventually, to Temple, Texas where they lived for 18 years. Martha Dell worked in banks in Eldorado and in Temple. She was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church.

A kind and loving person, Martha Dell gathered friends wherever she went. Many were friends she had had since childhood, and many more were those she had cultivated along the way. One of her closest friends, Betty Schrader and her husband Bobby, dated back to her days in Temple, Texas, where Martha and Betty worked in the bank together. Martha Dell had a fun-loving nature and an easy acceptance of all people. During her last years in San Angelo, she had been especially close to her life-long friend Suzy Rosford, and they shared many good times and good laughs together.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim Thornton, and her brothers John Sidney Williams and wife Mozelle and Jack Williams.

Survivors include Suzan and Steve Wilson of San Angelo, Mark and Kidie Thornton of Tampa, Florida, brother Stuart Williams of San Angelo, granddaughters Amanda and Adam Hryb and their four children Kora, Alyce, Isabella and Adam, Jr. (A.J.) of Peoria, Arizona, Julie and Sam Thompson, of Lubbock, Texas, and grandsons Taylor Thornton of Pensacola, Florida, and Parker Thornton of Tampa, Florida, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
