Jeffs’ followers suffer more legal setbacks

Even as the State of Texas seeks to seize the YFZ Ranch, several followers of FLDS prophet Warren Jeffs have suffered a series of legal setbacks.
The Texas Third District Court of Appeals last week dismissed an appeal brought by William Keith Dutson, Jr., of his sexual assault conviction after he failed to provide the court with a certified copy of his trial transcript.

Beans and Water?

FLDS children allegedly on diet of  beans and water

Anti-polygamy activist K. Dee Ignatin of San Antonio urges people to join her cause as she attempts to draw attention to the needs of children inside the tight-knit FLDS community still loyal to imprisoned prophet Warren Jeffs.

Ignatin says that the children are being fed only beans and water two times each day. The restriction, she claims, was ordered by Jeffs.
“There is no milk, no cheese, no meat or fruit, no sugar, no vegetables, no grains-nothing but beans and water,” Ignatin says. “The parents are still allowed to eat other foods but the children get nothing but beans and water.”
Recent aerial photos of the YFZ Ranch reveal that all of the dairy cows once kept there are gone, lending credence to the belief that Jeffs’ self-sufficient followers, or at least those here in Schleicher County, no longer have access to dairy products.

Five Years Later

A review of things we knew or thought we knew about the 2008 YFZ Ranch Raid.

The 2008 raid at the YFZ Ranch began five years ago this week when Child Protective Service workers, Texas Rangers and Schleicher County Sheriff David Doran appeared at the YFZ gate with a search warrant and a request to speak with a 16-year-old girl named Sarah Barlow.

What followed, quickly turned into a six-daylong police raid involving more than a hundred law enforcement officers. At the same time, CPS officials took custody of 439 children and removed them from the ranch, prompting the largest child custody battle in U.S. history.
