FLDS lawyers must pay attorney fees

Rodney ParkerUtah 3rd District Court Judge Denise Lindberg ruled on Monday, April 2, 2012, that FLDS attorneys Rodney Parker and Kenneth Okazaki must pay former FLDS member Richard Holm $11,568.25 in attorney fees he accrued while pursuing a temporary restraining order against Warren Jeffs, his brother Lyle, and the FLDS Church in December of last year.

 

Jessop’s ‘Turkey Baster’ defense fails in Appeal

The Texas Third Circuit Court of Appeals last Thursday rejected YFZ Ranch resident and FLDS Church member Raymond Merril Jessop’s appeal of his 2009 child rape conviction.

Schleicher County jurors found Jessop, 40, guilty of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl who had been sealed to him in a polygamous or celestial marriage. They sentenced Jessop to 10 years in prison and fined him $8,000.

Jeffs tells Court of Criminal Appeals that Jesus demands his release

In what one lawyer called “the worst appellate petition ever,” FLDS prophet Warren Jeffs invoked the name of Jesus Christ as he demanded the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals order his release from prison.

Jeffs, 56, is serving a life plus 20 years prison sentence after being convicted of sexually assaulting two underage girls he took as polygamous, or celestial wives.

Texas High Court won’t hear Jeffs’ appeal

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals refused last week to consider an appeal filed by FLDS prophet Warren Steed Jeffs. The court is the state’s highest criminal court and the last resort for felons seeking legal relief in the state court system.

Jeffs, who is serving life plus 20 years for child rape, must now look to the United States Supreme Court if he wants to ever be released from jail.
