120-day provision waived, trials rescheduled for July 25 & October 3

There were a couple of big surprises Monday morning during the pretrial hearing for FLDS “prophet” Warren Jeffs at the Tom Green County Courthouse. First, yet another lawyer, Jeff Kearney of Fort Worth, appearance on behalf of Jeffs. Second, Judge Barbara Walther agreed to postpone Jeffs’ upcoming trials until later this year.

 

Water board denies YFZ variance request

The Plateau Underground Water Conservation & Control District District’s board of directors met Friday, February 11, 2011, and voted to deny an exception to water well spacing rules previously requested by the YFZ Ranch.

The exception was requested by Paul Allred, operator of the ranch’s public water system. It would have allowed a new water well to be drilled within 100 feet of an existing well.

 

Canadian girls allegedly smuggled to YFZ

Word reached Eldorado last Friday that Canadian officials are  looking into allegations that three  girls from Bountiful, British Columbia, were smuggled into the United States so they could be celestially married to FLDS prophet Warren Steed Jeffs.

Documents filed with a B.C. court alleged that a pair of 12-year-old girls from a polygamous enclave near the U.S./Canadian border, were brought into the United States by their fathers in 2005 so they could be “sealed for time and eternity” to the church prophet, Warren Jeffs.

 

Doctor gives deposition in Jeffs' Case

FLDS prophet Warren Jeffs appeared in court Monday, February 21, 2011, for a pretrial hearing. Prosecutors requested that the court allow a video deposition of Dr. Joel Dickens, OB/GYN.

It was noted that Dickens and investigator Diane Wilson of the 51st District Attorney’s Office collected DNA (bucca cell oral swabs) from one of Jeffs’ alleged victims and her child on April 11, 2008.

Jeffs delivers prophesy of death, destruction

Warren Jeffs has been a busy man. In the past two months, the self-proclaimed prophet of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS) has managed to excommunicate dozens of his followers, issue a proclamation threatening the destruction of American civilization, and reclaim the presidency of the church. And...he’s done it all from within the confines of the Reagan County Jail.
