54 And behold, the watchman upon the tower would have seen the enemy while he was yet afar off; and then ye could have made ready and kept the enemy from breaking down the hedge thereof, and saved my vineyard from the hands of the destroyer.

 

Steed Pleads No Contest - Gets 7 Years

Leroy Johnson Steed, 45, plead no contest Tuesday morning to Sexual Assault of a Child and two counts of Bigamy. He was pronounced guilty by State District Judge Barbara Walther and was sentenced to 7 years in prison on each charge. The sentences will be served concurrently.

As part of Steed's plea bargain, the state dropped a charge of Tampering with Physical Evidence. An enhancement that would have allowed Steed to face a minimum of 20 years (due to his victim's young age) was also eliminated.

Steed was immediately taken into custody and placed in a Schleicher County Sheriff's Department vehicle for transport to jail.

Jessop Gets 10 Years in Prison

FROBERT LEE — Frederick Merril Jessop, 75, was sentenced to 10 years in prison Tuesday by a Coke County jury for performing an unlawful wedding ceremony in 2006 in which he married his 12-year-old daughter to FLDS prophet Warren Jeffs. The jury deliberated only 50 minutes before handing down its decision. Jessop was also slapped with a $10,000 fine. The sentence and fine were the maximum allowed by law for the third-degree felony charge.

 

Merril Jessop Moved To Huntsville

Frederick Merril Jessop, 75, was transferred Monday into state custody at the Byrd Unit prison near Huntsville.  Schleicher County jailer and transport officer Mike Hester escorted Jessop to the TDCJ facility where he was booked in as a state inmante and began his 10-year prison sentence.

 

Wendell Nielsen rescinds plea deal

UPDATED DECEMBER 1, 2011

Former FLDS president Wendell Nielsen withdrew his no contest plea Monday to three charges of felony Bigamy and will go to trial on the charges in January.

Nielsen challenged the terms of his probation and  asked 51st District Judge Barbara Walther to amend them.

 

 

Canadian authorities look to Texas after judge upholds polygamy ban

Canadian law enforcement officials have scheduled a trip to Texas to compare notes and review evidence involving  members of the FLDS church and alleged trafficking of underage girls into and out of Canada.
