Canadian girls as young as 12 were allegedly smuggled into the United States by FLDS members loyal to prophet Warren Jeffs according to evidence entered during the last two weeks in a Canadian court case.

 

Jeffs won’t cede church presidency

Embattled FLDS president Warren Jeffs last Thursday reasserted his claim to the church presidency in documents filed on his behalf with the Utah Department of Commerce.

Jeffs, who is locked away in the Reagan County Jail, did not respond directly, but through a group of surrogates. Their filings answer one made a week earlier by William E. (Timpson) Jessop in which he claimed to have been called to be the church’s president.

 

440 million pages of federal evidence

An estimated 1.7 billion pages of evidence, stored as electronic data on a pair of one-terabyte hard drives, was enough to convince 51st District Judge Barbara Walther on Friday, April 8, 2011, to delay the trial of Frederick Merril Jessop who stands accused on charges that violated Texas law by performing prohibited wedding ceremonies.

 

Dueling Judges Battle over FLDS property trust

A simmering feud between state and federal courts boiled over last week in Utah when U.S.  District Judge Dee Benson threatened to arrest Utah District Judge Denise Lindberg and have her hauled into his courtroom.

Only a last-minute intervention by the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals stalled the showdown that might well have sparked a constitutional crisis.

 

Books burned as Jeffs churns out proclamations

STORY UPDATED APRIL 27, 2011 A collection of books intended for use in a new public library were burned last weekend in Short Creek, the name locals use for the twin towns of Hildale, Utah and Colorado City, AZ.

Isaac Wyler discovered charred remnants of  books outside an old school building where he said the books had been burned in a bonfire.

 

Jeffs moved to Schleicher Co. Jail

FLDS prophet Warren Jeffs was transferred to the Schleicher County Jail on Wednesday, April 20, 2011.

Schleicher County Deputies George Arispe and Jason Chatham made the trip to Big Lake where they took custody of Jeffs from Reagan County Sheriff Jeff Garner.

Jeffs was held in the Reagan County lockup since his extradition from Utah on November 30th of last year. He is awaiting trial on felony charges of Sexual Assault of a Child and Bigamy.
