The Eldorado Lady Eagles defeated the Marfa Lady Shorthorns 71-33 to claim the Bi-District championship.
Ashley Paulson led all scorers in the game with 17 points. She hit six field goals and added five points from the free throw line.

“Ashley was nuts,” Coach Benny Lockhart said after the game. “She said ‘this is my senior year, and I’m going to get after it.’ She was fantastic. She was way more aggressive offensively than she has been all year. She was great.”

Allyson Jarrett added 12 points for the Lady Eagles on six field goals while Miranda Arispe added 11 points on four field goals and a 3-pointer.

Amy Alvizo and Lauren Rubio each added eight points, Abby Fuentes hit for seven, Valeria Ortiz made six and Melissa Gonzalez hit for two to round out the scoring.

And, while the Lady Eagles were lighting up the scoreboard on one end of the court, their swarming defense stifled the Lady Shorthorns on the other.

“Defense has been the key to all 20 wins this year,” said Coach Benny Lockhart after the game.  “We all hustle pretty hard. Our defense is set by what Miranda and Abby do up top. If they get after it the whole team gets after it. That is what we saw tonight.”

The win not only gives the Lady Eagles their 20th victory, it sets up an Area round showdown with Sudan on Friday. The game is set to be played at 8 p.m. in Andrews.
