Medrano Memorial Run Slated for July 16

On Saturday, July 16 at the Eldorado High School track the The Jorge Medrano Memorial Run will begin at 9:00 a.m with a  1K Memorial Walk and 5K Run/Walk.

Registration closes at 8:20 a.m. the day of the race.  The 1K Memorial Walk will cost $15 the day of the race and $10 with early registation. The 5K Run/Walk early registration is $20, but the day of the race $25.


Pre-Registration ends July 9th. Registration includes a T-shirt (pre-registration guaranteed shirt on race day. Day of registrants will get shirt at later date.)

Top male and female over all will receive an acrylic trophy. 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each division will receive medals, a YIKES ID personal bracelet and water bottles.

A registration form can be picked up at the Success Office.

The Memorial Run is a fundraising event for the Medrano Family. Donations also can be made to the Medrano Family Fund at Eldorado’s First National Bank.

 

Mayo host two week camp at SCISD

EHS grad Michael Mayo conducts a two-week-long strength and conditioning camp at Eldorado High School. Mayo was a star athlete at EHS before graduating in 2000. He attended Angelo State University where he played basketball and competed in track and field while earning a bachelor of science degree in exercise and physiology. Mayo then spent some time away from academics and provided one-on-one training to competitive athletes and bodybuilders in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. He then pursued a masters degree in exercise physiology and worked as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Texas A&M. Mayo is currently completing his fourth and final year of medical school at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. He plans to specialize in Internal Medicine and pursue a fellowship in Sports Medicine. Michael Mayo is the son of Johnny and Carolyn Mayo of Eldorado.               — PHOTO BY KATHY MANKIN

 

EHS athletes honored at Sports Banquet

The 2011 Sports Banquet was held Monday, May 16, 2011 at the Schleicher County Civic Center. The event was hosted by the Eldorado Booster Club.  The opening prayer was given by senior athlete, Josh Jurecek.

Athletic Director Danny Wilhelm emceed the evening events starting with recognizing the Coaching Staff.
Nicole Martinez & Debbie Griffin introduced the current year  cheerleaders.

Varsity Cheerleaders for the 2010-11 school year were:  Ashley Paulson, Ashby Ragsdale, Abigail Ussery, Melissa Gonzales, and Alyssa Galindo. Junior Varsity Cheerleaders were: Marissa Gonzales, Eli Estrada, Valeria Ortiz and May Lou Martinez. Also helping cheer the teams on was Preston Rodriguez as Eagor the Eagle mascot.

Cheering for 2011-2012  season will be, Varsity Cheerleaders: Abby Fuentes, Marissa Gonzales, Melissa Gonzales, Mary Lou Martinez, Magali Mata, and Alex McMayon. Cheering for the Junior Varsity will be: Valeria Ortiz, Jessica Pasillas, Taylor  Curtis, Jessica Gandar, Arden Mertz and Ivie Kate Mynatt. And donning the role as Eagor the Eagle will be Robin Hibbs.

 

Lady Eagles clinch softball championship

The Eldorado Lady Eagles notched up three straight wins to move their season record to 10-1 and claim the District 2-1A Championship. Eldorado’s season record stands at 13-4.

The team went to San Angelo to beat TLCA 11-4 on April 11 then defeated Eden 20-1 on the Eldorado diamond before travelling to Winters on Tuesday, April 19 where they won 19-5 in five innings.

 

Baker, Buchholz, Rubio Regional Tennis

Senior Mason Baker will represent District 1-A in Boys Singles at the Regional Tennis Meet in Levelland April 20th and 21st. Baker will be accompanied by the double’s team of Robert Buchholz/Michael Rubio who also advanced.

 

12 EHS tracksters advance to Regional Track

Eldorado Varsity Track Team will travel to Regional Track Meet in Levelland, May 2 and 3. Varsity Girls Team place 5th at the Area Meet held in Wink, Wednesday, April 13 and Varsity Boys Team placed 4th at the Area Meet.
