Rollin Alon (Bud) Haynes, 83, of Mertzon, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, was born in Clay Center, Kansas on April 30, 1927 and was welcomed into heaven on October 13, 2010.  The only child of Raymond and Mildred Haynes, Bud and his family traveled across Kansas with the Salvation Army, which was the basis of his life-long faith.

Bud married his wife, Shirley, on May 23, 1949 and they shared 61 years of marriage.   Together they had four children, 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
In 1948, Bud began a life-long career with Northern Natural Gas, working in Kansas, Eldorado, Andrews, and Big Lake.  He retired in 1982, from his final position as Operations and Maintenance Manager.   Following his retirement, Bud and Shirley moved to Mertzon where he took on a variety of “post-retirement” projects such as caretaker for the cemetery, EMS ambulance driver, and substitute minister for the church.

He was a U. S. Navy veteran, a member of the Masons, a life-long volunteer fireman and a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Mertzon.  He had a life-long passion for NASCAR and for motorcycles, but nothing ranked above his passion for God first and family second.

He is survived by his wife Shirley; his three sons and daughters-in-laws Bob and Linda Haynes (Fort Stockton) and children Alona, Christy, and Randy; Mike and Stacy Haynes (Eldorado) and children Mindy and Tanner;  and David and Allison Haynes (Lubbock) and children Erin, Kyle, Aaron, and Jenna; and one daughter and son-in-law Alona and Gene Shoffner (San Angelo) and children Shawna, Michele and Rollin Skeet.  He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and many special friends.

A celebration of his life was held on Saturday, October 16th at 2 PM at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), US 67 at Juanita, Mertzon, TX.  Burial followed at the Mertzon Cemetery.

The family received friends on Friday, October 15th from 4-6 PM at the First Christian Church, Mertzon.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Salvation Army, 215 Gillis, San Angelo, TX, 76903 or the First Christian Church, P. O. Box 791, Mertzon, TX, 76941.  Funeral arrangements are being handled by Kerbow Funeral Home, Eldorado, TX.
