Eldorado Minor League All-Star team placed 1st in the Ozona Minor League Tournament on Saturday, June 15th. In the first round, held on Thursday, Eldorado beat Ozona 15-4.  They beat Wall on Saturday 7-3. Eldorado clenched the championship beating Ozona by one run 9-8. It was a weekend to celebrate and pay tribute to all who contributed to the newly completed Schleicher County Medical Center. Festivities began on Friday evening, June 14, 2013, with a reception in the Old Bank Building on Main Street in Eldorado.

Those in attendance were thanked for their participation in the project with a few special recognitions and awards being announced. Hospital District board president Randy Mankin began the presentations by recognizing and thanking the citizens of Schleicher County. “They are the ones who recognized the need for a new medical center and they were the ones who committed themselves to finance the project with their tax dollars,” Mankin said.

On Wednesday June 12, 2013 the Eldorado 4-Hers went to College Station to compete in the State 4-H Round-Up. While in College Station Franklin Buchholz tied for first place individual in mohair judging. Buchholz received the 2nd high place through the tie breaker with a score of 394. The team of Franklin Buchholz, Dalton Buchholz, Ivie Kate Mynatt, and West Ramon also received 2nd Place team in the Mohair contest. The team’s total score was 1163. Individual scores: Franklin Buchholz 394, Ivie Kate Mynatt 386, Dalton Buchholz 383, and West Ramon 345.
Meanwhile Crockett County received 1st place with a score of 1170 and Irion County received 3rd place in the mohair contest.
Also, Garet Swinford participated in the Plant ID contest, doing a great job.
On Thursday, June 13, Ivie Kate Mynatt and Esme Ruezga won 3rd in their educational presentation “Born To Shop” in the Ag Wool and/or Mohair Division.

The Eldorado Lions Club on Wednesday, May 15th recognized Cathy Kuykendall for her service and dedication to Eldorado. She headed up the patriotic and holiday banner project which beautifies Divide Avenue during patriotic holidays and the Christmas season. Schleicher County Commissioners Court met briefly Monday, June 17 at 3:00 p.m. in a special called meeting to address issues with the county’s swimming pool project.  
Judge Charlie Bradley advised the court that before the pool’s parking lot can be paved, a retaining wall would need to be built on  three sides of the pool in order to establish the proper grade for parking. A handicap accessible ramp will also have to be installed.


The new Schleicher County Nursing Home is approved for occupancy. Administrator Sarah Crone received word on Friday, May 17, 2013, from the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services that the new facility may open. News quickly spread to the hospital district board of directors and the facility staff as well as the nursing home residents and their families.
