Jeffs’ faithful continue to ‘answer them nothing’
Members of Warren Jeffs’ FLDS Church have long followed his “answer them nothing” approach when dealing with state and federal officials. And, they don’t appear to be prepared to change the practice any time soon as the State of Texas is still awaiting a response from YFZ Ranch officials regarding its attempt to seize the 1,691 acre property located four miles northeast of Eldorado on Schleicher County Road 300.
SCMC to see new doctor
Schleicher County Hospital District trustees held their first-ever board meeting in the new hospital Monday evening, just five days after the new facility opened.
Hospital Administrator Paul Burke updated the board on the move from the old hospital and shared with them some of the challenges his staff faced.
Commissioners adopt cemetery regulations
Schleicher County Commissioners met Monday, April 22, 2013, and voted to enact six pages of rules and regulations at the Eldorado Cemetery. The new rules come roughly 107 years after the cemetery was put into operation.

When authorities sought entry to the YFZ Ranch in 2008, they did so with the hope of finding a man named Dale Barlow. It later turned out that the allegations against Barlow were part of an elaborate hoax, perpetrated by a Colorado Springs woman named Rozita Swinton.
Early voting underway in Water District, School Board elections
Early Voting now underway for two seats on the water district board and one seat on the school board.
Incumbent board member Ray Ballew is facing Ricky Fuessel in Single-Member District 4 of the Plateau Underground Water Conservation and Control District. Meanwhile, Shay Parker and Steve Williams are vying for an open seat in District 1.
Incumbent Berta Nicholson is being challenged by Melissa Rodriguez for the seat in Single-Member District #2 on the Schleicher County ISD board of trustees.
Schleicher County Election Administrator Brenda Mayfield is overseeing the early voting portion of the election at the Schleicher County Memorial Building. Monday was the first day for early voting and so far the turnout has been light with only 18 votes being cast in the water district election and five votes in the school board race by late Tuesday afternoon.
Early voting will continue until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7th.
Election Day is Saturday, May 11th with voting taking place at the Memorial Building. Polls will open on Election Day at 7 a.m. and will remain open until 7 p.m.
