Garet Swinford receives 4-H Gold Star Award

One of Schleicher County 4-H’s very own was one of the 29 youth honored during the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s

District 7 4-H Gold Star Banquet. The annual event was held Monday, November 12 in the Bill Franklin Center in Coleman.

Included among the honorees at the banquet was Garet Swinford, son of John and Char Marie of Eldorado. The Gold Star Award is the highest honor given by AgriLife Extension on the county level. Winners are selected based on their personal development, leadership and achievement in 4-H projects, and on activities and contributions made to the 4-H program.

The annual Friend of 4-H Award is given annually to an organization or individual that supports the District’s 4-H program. This year’s award was presented to San Angelo Stock Show And Rodeo Association for their long standing support provided to numerous county 4-H programs as well as the District 7 4-H Program as

his year’s 23-county Gold Star Banquet conducted by AgriLife Extension was sponsored by the Coleman County Electric Cooperative, Concho Valley Electric Cooperative, Central Texas Electric Cooperative, Southwest Texas Electric Cooperative, Taylor Electric Cooperative and the Big Country Electric Cooperative.    

 

Sheriff’s Deputy involved in two-vehicle accident

Three people were taken to Schleicher County Medical Saturday night following a traffic accident south of Eldorado involving a Schleicher County Sheriff’s Department patrol car and a 2002 Chevrolet pickup. All three individuals were treated and released.

 

Major safety upgrade of US 277 includes addition of passing lanes

Drivers are going to start seeing a lot of orange barrels and workers on a 52-mile stretch of US 277 from San Angelo to Sonora. Those orange barrels and workers typically mean construction and delays for drivers. This case is no exception. Three projects, that will appear seamless to the public, but were awarded to two separate contactors, will add passing lanes throughout the corridor.

 

San Angelo man killed in traffic accident Hwy. 190

A San Angelo man was killed and a Del Rio man seriously injured last Friday in a transport truck/pickup crash some 12 miles west of Eldorado on U.S. Highway 190.

 

Council hears complaint about utility disconnect fees

The Eldorado City Council heard from Suyen  Rios Tuesday night who complained about unfairness in the way the city imposes $50 disconnect fees on utility bills.

 

SCISD embraces ‘Responsible Use’ of cellular phones and computing devices

Eldorado High School students will be able to bring their own electronic devices to school next semester and utilize them as they work on assignments. The change comes as Schleicher County ISD moves to embrace mobile technology by allowing students to access the school’s network using their own mobile devices.
