Experts to speak May 11 at Edwards Co. horticultural workshop

ROCKSPRINGS — The Texas AgriLife Extension Service office in Edwards County will conduct a free General Horticulture Workshop from 5:00-7:25 p.m. May 11 in the Edwards County Annex, located at 400 West Main in Rocksprings.

Two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered in the general and integrated pest management categories for participants completing the workshop.

 

Bonham company fined $128K for violating federal pesticide law

DALLAS — The President and Chief Executive Officer of a Texas pesticide producing company agreed to settle a complaint brought by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for violating a federal pesticides law designed to provide proper registration, distribution and sale of pesticides, EPA announced today.

 

SWCDs in State District II to elect TSSWCB board member

TEMPLE — Soil and water conservation districts in State District Two will elect a member to the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board (TSSWCB) on Tuesday, May 4. The election will be held at 6 p.m. in the Saint Ambrose Parish Hall in Wall, TX.

State District Two consists of 51 counties within which there are 43 soil and water conservation districts in the Hill Country and Big Bend-Trans Pecos region of Texas.

 

Five more states join challenge to federal health care law

AUSTIN – Five additional states have announced that they will join the original 13 states’ legal challenge to the newly enacted federal health care legislation. Indiana, North Dakota, Mississippi, Nevada and Arizona will join Texas and 12 other states’ legal action, which was filed on March 23 in federal court.

“No public policy goal – no matter how important or well-intentioned – can be allowed to trample the protections and rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution,” Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott said.

 

Oil & gas operators can now file well completion reports online with the Railroad Commission

AUSTIN- One of the final reporting steps that Texas oil and gas operators must take to complete an oil, natural gas or service well is now available online through the Commission’s website at www.rrc.state.tx.us, the three Texas Railroad Commissioners announced today.

“In our continuing efforts to streamline and make the agency more efficient at helping Texas remain the nation’s leading oil and natural gas producer, I am proud to announce that operators can now file their completion reports online with the Railroad Commission,” said Chairman Victor Carrillo.

 

Game Warden probe nets guilty plea from bass tourney cheat

ROCKWALL – A Garland man has pled guilty to stuffing a lead weight into a bass during a fishing tournament last fall, the outcome of an investigation by a Dallas-based Texas Parks and Wildlife Department game warden.

Forty-five-year-old Robby Rose , a competitive bass fisherman, entered a guilty plea in 382nd State District Court April 13 to the state jail felony offense of attempted theft over $20,000 but less than $100,000.  Judge Brett Hall sentenced Rose to five years probation, 15 days in jail and loss of his fishing license for the duration of his probation.
