Survivors are the reason we Relay.

A survivor is anyone who has ever heard the words “You have cancer.” And we invite all cancer survivors in the community to attend Relay For Life, May 14-15, 2010 7:00PM to 7:00AM at the High School Football Field.

Our goal is to create a world where more people survive cancer – so they can celebrate another birthday.

Lyons takes over at NWS in San Angelo

Steve Lyons, nationally renowned hurricane expert for The Weather Channel, join the National Weather Service as Meteorologist-in-Charge of the forecast office in San Angelo.

He is scheduled to take over the position the week of May 9th.

 

SBDC offers free seminar on ASU campus for would be entrepreneurs

The Angelo State University · Small Business Development Center is presenting a free seminar titled, “The Essentials of Starting a New Business.”  The seminar will be held on Tuesday, May 4 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in Conference Room 100 of the Rassman Building (2222 Dena Drive) on the ASU Campus.

This session will cover the basics of starting a new business and the resources available to small business owners.  You will learn how to determine if you have the right qualities to be a successful business owner and if your idea is feasible.

 

Beta Sigma Phi Report

It was a cool spring evening as Kappa Delta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met and held a ceremony, introducing three new pledges to the chapter. Before a candle lit table covered with a white satin table cloth, president Maggie Lloyd read the beautiful ceremony pledging Lori Buss, Donna Schooley and Melissa Truelove into the chapter. Glenda Harris and Dorothy Dacy presented them with their new pledge pins to be worn until they will be presented with their jewel pins and become full members of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.

 

Seniors invited to Spring Fling

The Area Agency on Aging of the Concho Valley, City of San Angelo Recreation-Senior Services Division and Concho Valley RSVP are making plans for the Twenty-third Annual Senior Spring Fling scheduled for Thursday, May 6, 2010 beginning at 9 am. This year the event will be held at the San Angelo Coliseum, 50 E. 43rd Street.

The Senior Spring Fling presents your organization with a unique opportunity to provide educational information and details about your services that help older adults. Sites/Events of the Day will include informational booths, health screenings, door prizes, special lunch program, announcement of the 2010 Senior Hall of Fame honorees, and bingo with prizes.

 

TDA quilt competition seeks stitched scenes of Texas wildlife

AUSTIN — Texans are known for their creative and masterful hand-quilted work. To showcase these talents, Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples is declaring “Texas Wildlife: Adventure Awaits” the theme of the Texas Department of Agriculture’s 2010 quilt block competition.

This theme highlights Texas’ abundant wildlife resources and activities related to Texas wildlife. The theme was chosen to spotlight one of TDA’s newest programs, the GO TEXAN Wildlife Initiative, designed to support the businesses and organizations that promote Texas’ diverse and extensive wildlife industry.
