FSA reminds producers to file annual acreage report

ELDORADO — Jan Wanoreck, Executive Director of USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Schleicher-Sutton/Val Verde County reminded producers this week to submit their annual report of acreage to their local FSA county office to meet FSA program eligibility requirements.

“Producers must file their reports accurately and timely for all crops and land uses, including prevented and failed acreage, to ensure they receive the maximum FSA program benefits possible,” said Wanoreck.

 

4H marksmen place at Marble Falls

The Schleicher County 4-H shooting sports group traveled to Marble Falls on April 10th to compete in the District 7 match. The club took 14 shooters to the shoot, two junior teams, two intermediate teams and one individual shooter. Shooters included Clayton Arendt, Colton Arendt, Byron Aycock, Canyon Faull, Jonathon Fortenberry, Valerie Geuea, Jess Gonzales, Jack Griffin, Trace Hariman, Davis Hutto, Kaden Johnson, Wyatt Mertz, Luis Miguel Martinez and Michael Mungia.

Eldorado Elementary 4th graders are preparing for a fund raiser to help the homeless children of Haiti.

Putting on a fund raiser is hard work, and the 4th grade classes are learning the old fashion way of participating from the ground up.  Each 4th grade teacher will guide  their students through each step of the fund raiser process.

 

County pool under new management

The Parker and Norman families were hired as co-managers for the Schleicher County Swimming Pool at Monday’s April 26 Commissioner Court Meeting.
Several individuals came before the court to ask for the position. The pool was previously managed for the county by Sylas Politte. However, the job came open again when Politte moved to Lubbock.

Lindsey Parker, Jhett Norman, Jessica Fuentes and David Creek met with the commissioners to explain their interest in operating the pool for the summer. For his part, David Creek said he was interested in refurbishing the pool.

The commissioners were impressed with Lindsey Parker’s and Jhett Norman’s written proposal, and the fact that both where school teachers and the men voted to accept their proposal.

 

Alvizo wins spot in State Science Meet

EHS senior Hunter Alvizo has placed four more medals into his 2010 UIL Academic collection  and will advance to 2010 UIL State Academic Meet in Austin.

Eldorado UIL Regional Academic individuals and teams competed in the regional meet on Friday, April 23, 2010 at South Plains College in Levelland.

 

Early morning fire destroys vacant home SW of Eldorado

A vacant house, located about a mile and a half southwest of Eldorado, was destroyed by fire early Monday morning.

The home, owned by Rob Phillips of Ozona, was fully involved in flames by the time fire fighters arrived.
