AUSTIN — The Texas Historical Commission (THC) is committed to saving the unknown stories of Texas’ past. This dedication resulted in the adoption of criteria to award approved candidates with Marker Application Funds collected since fall 2006.

Range & Grass Judging Contest

Schleicher County 4-H Range & Grass Judging individuals and teams attended the District 7 Contest held in Eldorado on April 24, 2010.

Jr. Range High Individuals results were: 1.  Franklin Buchholz - 265; 2.  Dalton Buchholz -243; 3.  West Ramon -191; 4.  Davis Hutto - 174; 5.  Garet Swindford -166; and 6.  Roman Gonzalez -153.

 

Heart Healthy Cooking School scheduled May 18

A two part Heart Healthy Cooking School will be held in Eldorado starting on Tuesday, May 18, and continuing on Tuesday, May 25. The classes will take place during the noon hour starting at 12 p.m. and finishing up at 1 p.m. Lunch will be served at each session which will be held at the Schleicher County Wellness Center. The cost for each class is $5.00.

The topics that will be covered are Managing Sodium in Your Diet, and Controlling Fat. Learn about seasoning foods with herbs, spices and citrus zest for great flavor.

 

TxDOT plans meeting in San Angelo

Two open house-style public meetings are slated to be held in San Angelo by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to give area citizens an opportunity to provide feedback on a long-range plan.

The plan provides the agency with a blueprint for the state’s future transportation needs.

 

Door-to-door visits begin for Census

COURTESY PHOTOAbout 635,000 2010 Census takers across the nation begin going door to door tomorrow to follow up with households that either didn’t mail back their form or didn’t receive one. An estimated 48 million addresses will be visited through July 10.

“America had a very successful first half of the 2010 Census, where more than 72 percent of the nation’s households mailed back their census forms,” U.S. Census Bureau Director Robert M. Groves said.

 

English competes at Junior Olympics

Placing “top gun” for the Navy team, Ethan English recently competed in the Junior Olympics in Colorado Springs.

Ethan competed in air pistol, where he placed 13th out of 80 shooters, and was only three points out of the running for the finals. He also competed in the .22 sport pistol match and finished 18th.
