Murder trial enters 2nd week

Dr. Roger Saunders, a clinical psychologist called by the defense, testified Tuesday, that John Darrell Thuesen entered the home of Travis and Rachel Joiner on the morning of their murders and slept in Rachel’s bed as he waited for her to return home.

Saunders continued to say that while Thuesen knew the .45 automatic pistol he carried could kill, he didn’t intend for Rachel to die when he shot her. He said that Thuesen viewed Travis only as an obstacle.

 

2nd Annual Rock-a-thon

The second annual 4th Grade Rock-a-thon was held Friday evening May 7th  till early Saturday morning of May 8th. The group raised over $1,850.00 for the children of Haiti. The students elected  to give the funds to the Education Recovery Fund sponsored by Scholastic Books and Save the Children.   Around midnight Sierra Forlano  began reading one of her favorite books “Call of the Wild”  to  “The Rainbow Readers”  team: They are  (L-R)  Monica Sanchez, Madison Arispe,Emelyn Reyes, Darlene Edmiston  and Emelda Arispe.

 

Founder’s Day celebrated by Kappa Delta chapter

Members of Kappa Delta chapter met at a local restaurant for their annual Founder’s Day Banquet on May 10, 2010.

Following the opening ritual Maggie Lloyd led us in the Beta Sigma Phi Grace and welcomed us to the event. Kim’et Nelson led us in the Founder’s Day Pledge and Belinda Faull read the message from international.

 

Ranchers Roundup slated May 25 in Sonora

SONORA — Carbon markets, cap and trade and “green” energy will all be addressed during this year’s Ranchers’ Roundup set for 8:30 a.m. May 25 in Sonora’s Sutton County Civic Center.

The program will be conducted by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service offices in Sutton,  Schleicher and Crockett counties.

 

County seeks $30K AEP grant

Schleicher County Commissioners met Monday, May 10th and voted to pursue a grant of as much as $30,000 from American Electric Power (AEP) that would help fund solar energy improvements if and when the county decides to build a new swimming pool facility. Engineer Tom Brown, with the firm of Naismith Engineering in Austin, was on hand to explain that if the grant is awarded, the funds could be used to offset matching funds required under larger grants that will be needed for the swimming pool project.

 

City eyes water, sewer problems

The Eldorado City Council was introduced Monday evening to the newest member of the city staff, a 2-foot-tall molded plastic owl named “Owlejandro.” Council members were told that the owl will be installed on the water tower behind City Hall in hopes of frightening away a flock of buzzards that have taken to roosting on the structure.

The meeting was convened at 6 p.m. by Mayor John Nikolauk with city council members Stacy Haynes, Stan Meador, Dora Bosmans, Jon Cartwright, Richard Mendez and Dorothy Dacy in attendance.
