County enacts Burn Ban

The Schleicher County Commissioners Court met Monday, June 14, 2010, and voted to enact an immediate county-wide Burn Ban.

The ban came at the request of Fire Chief Jerry Jones who explained that hot, dry conditions  have increased the fire potential in the county. Burn Ban signs will be displayed on all highways entering into Schleicher County.

It was noted that the Burn Ban will not affect Prescribed Burns that are done in conjunction with the National Resource Conservation Service and/or the local Prescribed Burn Association.

 

Mrs. Sessom’s 2nd graders collected 294 box tops

The PTO is very pleased to announce that our Eldorado Elementary students collected 1,581 Box Tops during the spring 2010 semester to go toward financially helping our school—each top earns the school 10 cents!

Mrs. Sessom’s 2nd grade class won the PTO Box Tops class challenge by collecting 294 box tops!  They were rewarded with a “scooper-duper” ice cream party sponsored by the PTO.  Mrs. Halbert’s class came in second with 220 tops, and Mrs. Luedeke’s class was third with 160 tops collected.  Way to go parents, teachers, and students!

 

Eldorado Woman’s club holds its final meeting of the club year

The Eldorado Woman’s Club met  Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 12:00 noon for our salad luncheon meeting at the annex hall of the First Methodist Church. Theme for our meeting was “Meeting the Eldorado High School Senior Girls” and their sponsor Maureen Hodges. Paige Ragsdale is the High School Counselor.

President Myrt Williams opened our meeting with a warm welcome to all. Trish Rowe gave a prayer and Linda Stutes lead us in our pledge.

President Williams next presented the Senior girls, and each girl went to the podium and gave a short talk on her future plans after graduating. Beautiful bright blue insulated gift bags were presented to each graduate.

 

Elementary raises $6K for Heart Association

Elementary students, Kindergarten thru 4th Grade grand total for Jump Rope for Heart/Hoops for Heart was $8,834.72 with $6,000 going to the American Heart Association and $2, 834.72 to the Schleicher County Wellness Center.

Jo Parker and Randy Mitchel would  like to thank all the students who participated in this event and to the generous people who donated to this life changing cause.  Each donation no matter how big or small will help save lives.

 

Cub Scouts have big summer plans

Our local Cub Scout Pack 18 has big plans for this summer. On Monday, June 14 at 6 p.m., there will be a planning meeting at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall for all parents that have boys in Cub Scouts or would like their child to become involved. At this meeting new scouts will be registered, information about each grade level’s program will be shared and dates for the fall and spring events may be set.

An egg drop will be held on Monday, June 21 at 6 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. At this event, Cub Scouts will build contraptions to protect eggs from a 30-foot drop.

 

FUMC offers free shoes

Your neighbors at Eldorado  United Methodist  Church are offering a new ministry to help those in our community to meet their needs. Beginning Wednesday June 16th we will be offering gently used shoes and boots at no cost to those who might need a little help. We have a lot of women’s and men’s shoes and boots as well as some children’s shoes. Each person may pick up one pair at no cost.

The Shoe Tree ministry will be open from 10 am to noon each Wednesday, just follow the signs.
