WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Mike Conaway (TX-11) will be in Eldorado on Monday, August 16, 2010, to visit with constituents and engage them in the America Speaking Out project.

The meeting is planed from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m. in the Commissioners Courtroom on the first floor of the Schleicher County Courthouse.

America Speaking Out is a Republican initiative that allows constituents to give their Member of Congress their input and ideas on the issues they see as most important, having their say crafting the overall Republican agenda. They will also have the opportunity to submit ideas to the America Speaking Out website and engage in conversation with Congressman Conaway solely on ideas and issues they see as the most important issues facing our country.

“I am excited to visit Eldorado and speak with constituents about the America Speaking Out initiative,” said Conaway. “It will be good to hear the ideas of the people of West Texas as we craft a new agenda for Congress.”

Single vaccine good for flu this year

Wednesday, 04 August 2010 16:08

HOUSTON — Getting the flu shot will be more convenient this year because just one influenza vaccine will offer protection against both H1N1 and the seasonal flu. Baylor College of Medicine (www.bcm.edu) experts suggest the beginning of the school year is a good time to get the vaccine, even though flu season does not peak until winter.

“Influenza is always bad news for kids because they are more likely to be susceptible and, when at school, have a high risk of exposure to the virus,” said Dr. Paul Glezen, professor of molecular virology and microbiology and pediatrics at BCM.

Because children between the ages of 2 and 9 require two doses of the vaccine four weeks apart, it’s important to get a head start on getting children vaccinated, said Glezen.
